Humans have achieved something no other species has ever experienced: the ability to live in a state of constant comfort. Our bodies are still hard-wired for coping with intense physical and environmental challenge — from famine to extreme temperatures. But our comfortable lifestyles never exercise these hard-wired systems. This is killing us. Every contemporary metabolic disease and immune dysfunction can be linked to this tragic physiological mismatch. Dancing with Darwin describes a distinct whole-body approach to confront this modern health crisis. One by one, Steven J. Saltzman, M.D. explains how to restore cellular oxygen levels and use simple “challenge therapies” to re-awaken ancient metabolic activities. He reveals the missing links, unpacks the established science, and clearly explains each integrative therapy to restore health and invigorate athletic performance. His practical advice empowers diverse groups, ranging from those with complex health challenges to elite performance athletes. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Joe D. Lauck. Pounding music. Sculpted men. And a conspiracy that could cost far more than a few dollar bills....  Detective Blake Knight has been undercover before. But an assignment to bust a steroid ring running out of Dallas' elite male strip club means his new cover will be nothing but his own taut muscles and oiled skin. It's one thing for the tough, by-the-books agent to take down bad guys with his gun. Facing a rowdy crowd in only a G-string is another story...especially in front of his new boss, gorgeous, mysterious Reese Landon.  Her father's club and shady business practices bring back terrible memories for Reese. But when he's shot and goes into a coma, she vows to protect him the way he never did for her. That means keeping the police at a distance - especially sexy, driven Detective Knight. If she has to give him a cover job, it would be a crime not to put that glorious ass on stage. But no matter how good he looks in a Velcro uniform, she can't trust him - or give in to the undeniable heat between them. They're both chasing the truth. And it might expose more than either wants to show.... "There's dancing and then there's dirty dancing. With the backdrop of a male strip club, this steamy romance has a large dose of danger to boot. Adding to the dynamic are lead characters who are both dealing with abandonment issues that have driven their career choices. Dangerous Moves is a highly entertaining and cohesive suspense novel with an emotionally satisfying romance that will keep readers glued to the page." (RT Book Reviews)  1. Language: English. Korean-American Chronicles: As Recounted by Kor...
9,95 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

This book, edited by April Myung of Bergen County Academies in New Jersey, contains autobiographies of ten Korean teenagers, currently studying in American high schools. This historically significant volume contains writings by break-dancing Julius Im, who understands his Korean-American identity through this medium of African-American dance, to Rei Fujino Park of Flushing, New York, who explores her own dual identiy with a Korean father (who served in the elite Korean military special forces) and a Japanese mother. Rei Fujino describes her parents' marriage as a loving union of "enemies" given the history of Japanese colonization of Korea (1910-1945). Julie Oh describes the difficult situation of the children of Korean company workers for Samsung, LG, SK, Woori Bank, and other Korean companies, who come with a short-term working visa to the United States. The children of these "Joo-Jae-Won" have to go to Saturday school (in her case, "Woori School") in order to maintain the skill level of Korean high schools, in the case that their parents get recalled to South Korea - their children would have to apply for Korean universities and meet the requirements of Korean university entrance tests, which are vastly different from America's SAT, ACT, and AP tests. Andrew Hyeon shares his experience as a Korean Catholic, attending Hopkins School, an elite private school in Connecticut, where former Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh, a famous Korean, attended. Ruby Hong's autobiography is written as a fairytale account of her own life. The autobiographies in this book are not only creatively written as to capture the readers' interest, but they also provide valuable resources for Korean American Studies. (This book is the second in the Hermit Kingdom Sources in Korean-American Studies, whose series editor is Dr. Onyoo Elizabeth Kim, Esq.) 1. Language: English. Narrator: Jeannie Lin.
